Can you find the True Gospel in the Churches?

It is true that most churches out there teach that if you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and accept Him as your Savior, then you are saved and adopted as joint heirs with Christ. This is Biblical and the very foundation of our faith. The problem lies herein: The vast majority of churches in America do not teach the real Jesus Christ. Instead, they teach a nationalistic, militaristic, and capitalistic version of Him that bears little resemblance to the Jesus of the Bible.

So what happens when we have millions upon millions of people accepting a false christ? In short, you have the namesake of our website: Perverted Christianity. The Apostle Paul writes of this perversion of the Gospel in Galatians chapter 1, and he goes on to say of anyone who is teaching this perversion of the Truth, “let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:6-8)

These perversions come in many forms today. Most are so ingrained into the modern Christian’s psyche that they give no thought to them at all. American flags in the sanctuaries, pledging allegiance to those flags, teaching that monetary gain is God’s blessing to His followers, that it is okay to kill your enemies if the nation you were born in tells you it’s the right thing to do, and even giving special honor to those who make it their career to kill their nation’s enemies. They teach you to follow and obey their man-made hierarchies, giving them special titles and the chief seats in the churches. They teach you that it’s okay for your church to be incorporated by the secular government, and you accept without question because at least you can write off your tithe as a tax deduction.

But what did Jesus teach about such things?

Jesus said that His kingdom is not of this world. In fact, the Gospel says that the kingdoms of the world have been given over to Satan at this time. (John 18:36; Luke 4:5-8) So why on earth would we recognize and honor a flag that represents an earthly kingdom controlled by Satan?

Jesus teaches that money is a stumbling block that chokes off the Word. He teaches that earthly treasures are not to be sought after, but rather we are to store up our treasures in Heaven. (Matthew 13:22; Matthew 6:19,18) So why would those following Christ want to have an abundance of something that is going to separate us from Him? God would not see this as bestowing a blessing upon us, and we shouldn’t see it that way either.

Jesus teaches that we are to love our enemies, and do good to those who persecute us. We pray for them…we do NOT kill them! (Matthew 5:43-48) We should be revolted by anyone who chooses a career where they voluntarily kill another human being. But instead, most churches today praise them for their “courage” and “bravery.”

Jesus taught that His disciples were to serve one another, and that no one was to exert authority over another. He harshly criticized the Pharisees for setting themselves up on pedestals, dressing in fancy clothes, and trying to appear greater than those under them. (Matthew 20:25-28; Matthew 23)

Jesus taught that the secular government and your service to God are two totally separate things. He said that you give to Caesar what is asked of you monetarily, and you give to God what is God’s. You do not give to God and then ask it back from Caesar! (Matthew 22:17-21) The filthy lucre you are able to keep is a huge price to pay for allowing the secular government to enter into your church. If your church is a registered 501(c)3 corporation, it has entered into a contract with a nation that the Bible says is ruled by Satan.

The above is just a sampling of the common perversions in today’s churches. The last (and most common) perversion that most all churches practice is the doctrine of self-righteousness. It comes in many different forms, but the core is always the same. The preacher tells you how good you are because you come to church every time the doors are open, you tithe regularly, you teach Sunday School, are on the church board, you volunteer, etc. It’s like painting varnish on a table, and every week when you enter those church doors you get another coat. Eventually the varnish of self-righteousness is so thick that the True Gospel can’t penetrate it. At this point, the only way to remedy this is to humble yourselves like little children, realize that you have been led astray, pray for God to restore you and for the Holy Spirit to teach you Who the real Jesus is. (John 14:26)

Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

“Let him be accursed……” This is serious business folks. This isn’t a matter of choosing the “right” denomination. This is the difference between lies and Truth, saved and unsaved, life and death. This is the difference between Jesus saying to you, “Well done my good and faithful servant,” or “Away from me, I never knew you.”

So today we ask you, which Jesus will you serve?
