God Damn America?

Over the course of the past week, we have witnessed a lot of outrage over the words of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, the pastor of southern Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. What seemed to cause the most contempt for the man was the following statement:

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes athree-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

America is actually the enemy of God, more appropriately the ruling interests in America, the unelected few who determine what America does, are the enemies of God. Through a manipulating mainstream media and brain-washing from birth America's citizens are mostly ignorant of, or approve of America's actions, without really knowing the truth. There are a rare few who stand up and say this is wrong, but they are usually disposed of in some way or marginalized as extremists, fringe elements not to be taken seriously. As you try to expose the truth, you'll discover that most people do not want to know the truth!

Did we say brain-washed? How can we say that? How else can you explain the fact that most Americans see their country as a force for good in the world, when in fact, as Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. said "America is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world" and it still is true over 40 years later. Since the early 1960s America has been responsible for the deaths of well over 2.5 million people, most civilians, tragically deemed to be America's "enemies". Anywhere from 1.5 to 3 million Vietnamese were killed in America's involvement there, a war based on lies, just as the latest war is based on lies, and now over 1 million Iraqis are dead. Yet when a person such as Rev. Wright says "God damn America" the populace are aghast and astounded and say collectively "why"? We have up to 4 and a half million reasons why, but due to the brain-washing, YES, brain-washing and manipulation by a controlled media most Americans cannot understand why anyone could say such a thing about America.

Think of it like this: A nation is responsible (directly, and indirectly responsible for thousands upon thousands more) for the deaths of approximately 4.5 million people, again, mostly civilians, and again in wars based on known lies by the people who started them, what would you call that nation? If it were any other country you'd call them what they are: murderers, butchers, barbarians and worse. But since it's America, and since the populace is lied to and brain-washed from birth, most go on thinking that whatever America does is God's will or the right course of action. More importantly what does God say about America? We can look to the 10 Commandments for the answers:

Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Such as money and the pursuit of hegemony.

Exo 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

America has broken this one, again, up to 4 and half million times in the last 50 years alone, and many more times if you go back to the origins of this nation.

Exo 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

Elections, money from the poor, resources from other countries, etc.

Exo 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Such as they attacked our warships, unprovoked, off their coasts, or they have weapons of mass destruction and can kill us in 45 minutes or less!

Exo 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Anything of thy neighbors, their oil, their land, not anything!

So America having broken God's commandments so many times, and we've only discussed the tip of the iceberg here, how can anyone stand on moral ground and say "how dare he say 'God damn America'"?

The more appropriate question is why should God bless America?
